I woke up tired, but happy the next morning. Sen. James Oseni was about to become the next Governor of Lagos State, He led in 28 local government , as the vote being collated indicates. I called to congratulate him, and he assured me that I was going to win. The D-Day’s tomorrow. Jola called, and told me to make up my mind, I told him to do his worst, and it seemed he was finding it hard to release the sextape, all he wanted me to do, was to back down and give him easy access.
Now that I am unfazed by the news, and also act like I don’t care if the sextape would be out, because Tech told me he had my back. Wait, why’s tech being so supportive, I mean we are married, not officially but we are married, and he is okay, seeing my sextape released to the whole nation. I remained skeptical about it,but then another thought comes in, Why don’t I just play along with him, at least I have an husband who’s being very considerate and supportive.
I called Jola and told him if he would agree to a deal I had thought about , the deal, he wouldn’t release the sextape if he won, but if I do, i will step down but if I refuse to, he releases the sextape. He agreed, saying it was the best deal at the moment. I informed Tech, he got very mad, saying I cant just give up my senatorial seat, and that he won’t let me to do that.
What should I have done?, what will be will be eventually, and I can’t fathom Tech’s mother watching that video, or his father.
SENATORIAL ELECTION DAY
Morning and my heart was banging faster with every second. Tech had woken up early that morning, hacked Jola’d party leaders E-mail to find out how they were organising the election and the rigging procedures. He forwarded the information he had to me, and I in turn gave them to my party leaders, who started with informing the police.
I ate breakfast, went to shower and then wore my campaign T shirt with some shorts,Tech followed the same dress code, and then we moved to the voting center. Amidst cheers and applause, I went in, queued and then voted for the “best Candidate”. I waited for Tech to cast his vote, and then I waved at the crowd, who were about to vote, telling to vote with their hearts.
We drove home, immediately, awaiting the result. Jola had contacted to know if the deal was still in place, and I replied positive. The results would be out in some hours, the time to know my fate draws near.
” Senator James Oseni has won the Gubernatorial Elections In Lagos State. He won by a landslide, and his predecessor Alhaji Rauf Rahman has congratulated him on this victory, now down to the senatorial elections where the talk of the state is the competition between Whitney Saliu-Johnson and Jola Edwards for the mushin constituency. ” The news reporter spoke so fluently, I’d turn my attentions from fear to her prowess. Tech had me seated to watch the news, I just wanted to read about it in the dailies, but Tech wouldn’t allow me.
Tech had met with Jola few hours before the live broadcast, he offered him about 60 million naira, but Jola refused, saying he had nothing to lose. Tech came up, frown on his face, until I told him not to worry. I’d handle everything. I planned to kill Jola, if I win the election or not, I’d ask for a discreet location, offer myself to him (S£x) and then stab him while we’d be grinding. He was better dead than alive anyway, I couldn’t watch him rule my people with such evil heart.
“There were 3709134 registered candidates for this senatorial election in the mushin constituency , and so far, Jola Edwards has been leading, nor by a mile but just a fair distance off Whitney Saliu-Johnson. She is giving him a run for his money. The collated votes at the moment puts Jola up at 1308780 and Whitney at 1198769, shows Jola is up by an hundred thousand, and we promise to bring you the final results, by 10 PM today, as collation continues”.
Tech kissed my forehead, assuring me that the polls were still open and that I had done well, I just calculated how many votes were still up for grabs, I discovered from my calculations that one million votes were still in for grabs. So, I went online, got some messages from my well wisher, thanked people for voting on twitter, and then moved to my room., to have a nap rill at least 10pm. I laid on bed, defiant on the plans of Jola’s assassination, but he was winning, maybe there’d be no need after all.
What if I just take his offer?, What if he doesn’t win?, What if I fail in everything?, my mind was full of what if’s, Tech called me downstairs, it was past 10 PM already, I moved downstairs, and I saw on the TV screen, I was leading.
Calls came in. Text messages flooded my phone. Neighbours came around. I just won the election, the celebrations around me overwhelmed me, I wasn’t happy that I wasn’t happy I just won an election I spent almost 5 months to work on. Tech’s Dad called, his mum followed, April couldn’t get enough of it,sure I was everywhere, on her Instagram, twitter, but then I remembered my mom, I got sad, then I thought about Jola, and what he’d do next. I didn’t know if to call him or wait for his call, so I followed my instinct, and moved towards my phone, thanking everyone who came to celebrate me.
The margin was so small, I egded with 1,212 votes, at the end, Tech kissed me on the forehead, and then moved to the room when he heard I won.,He came outt all dressed, saying he had some business to deal with. What Business I wondered? , he didn’t give me much time to question him, as he moved straight to the car and drove off. I didn’t want it to be what I was thinking about, maybe he went to attack Jola, but then, at that moment, I was too busy, flooded with calls, that I could barely follow my husband to know his movement. I picked up a call at all, from Sen. James Oseni, he congratulated me, telling me my determination and good work won me the election, and I should show those traits when I start serving. I didn’t even realise I had to write a speech until he pointed that out, that i’d need to address the people of Mushin. I asked April to help me with that, and then changed unto some black apparel, took a kitchen knife and moved to my car, ready to finish the deal.
I drove myself, and called Tech, who refused to pick up any of my calls, and then I called Jola, who wouldn’t pick also, and so I sped, to meet up with Tech if he was trying to do something he’d regret in Jola’s place. I didn’t realise the Lagos police had started following me, as soon as I drove above speed limit, I pulled up, and started pleading, they couldn’t recognise me though, so after some time, they asked for some bribe, I paid them more than they asked, they thanked me, hailing me, I didn’t care, I sped off again, knowing they wouldn’t care to follow me again.
I had almost gotten to Jola’s place, and as I drove neat his gate, I tried to see if Tech ‘s car was there, and it wasn’t, I called him again, this time he picked the call, telling me he just left Jola now, and that Ja had accepted the bribe and that we were free. He told me to drive home for us to celebrate properly now, I felt relieved, and then I thought, why don’t I call Jola and tell him I appreciated him changing his mind. On calling, Stephanie, his wife picked, she was crying,
“Why are you crying, Stephanie “, I asked.
“Birch, weren’t u satisfied with winning the election, why did you do this?”, She said, in between sobs
“Stephanie, what’s happened? “. I asked.
“Jola was involved in a Car Crash, he’s in a very critical condition, he was drunk driving and his brake failed”. She said
“Oh gosh, please what hospital has he been admitted to?” I asked, shocked.
“Lagoon, Lagoon hospital, that’s where we are “, She said, ending the call.
I drove in that direction, one thing in mind,if this was Tech, he proves he’s really mastermind, it’d look like Jola got drunk because I won, and then got in an accident, I wanted to call h, but I felt scared to ask him, I didn’t know how far he could go , and I didn’t know who to trust anymore.
